Culture in Alzey

Alzey also has a lot to offer culturally and literarily. For example, every three years the "Elisabeth-Langgässer-Literaturpreis" of the city of Alzey is awarded to German writers and authors. The award ceremony always takes place on the weekend of the birth week of its namesake. The award ceremony is always decided by an independent literary jury.

Gallery in the Burggrafiat

Exhibitions have been held here since 1983. To date, about 200 different exhibitions of various artists have been exhibited in the gallery - including Franz Knapp, Ludwig Seeger, Charles White and many other artists. In addition to the well-known artists, artists from the region (e.g. Jo van Alsen or the Alzeyer hobby artists) also exhibit here again and again. The gallery has 150 m², which are divided into 5 different rooms.

The Oberhaus Alzey

The Oberhaus Alzey regularly hosts various events - young bands show their skills, comedians make you laugh or cabarets are performed. The Open Stage Evening is also very popular and offers a varied programme.

Admission usually starts at 8 p.m., concerts usually start at 9:30 p.m., cabarets and comedy shows start at 9:00 p.m.

Gerry Jansen Theatre

Describes itself as "Germany's craziest professional stage". Here comedies are basically performed, which will only make you laugh. The plays change every few months and there is usually a performance every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8.15 pm. You can also enjoy a gourmet menu before the play in the restaurant "12 Apostel" which belongs to the theatre.

Alzey Museum

The museum was housed in the old hospital building of the city, which dates back to the 16th century. Here you will find all important facts about the city's history, folklore, prehistory, early history and geology.

Dinotherium Museum Eppelsheim

In Eppelsheim you can see original finds from about 10 million years of dinosaur history. The finds originate from the ancient Rhine and the center of the exhibition is the skull cast of a Deinotherium giganteum.
